Much like the Hazmat classification system that bears their name, Division 1.1 are an incendiary collection of ingredients ready to detonate! Consisting of several veteran rock/metal writers and players with backgrounds in diverse genres, this band evokes the speed and power of the most aggressive thrash seasoned with technical prowess, elements of progressive rock, melody and socio-politically themed lyrical content- The result is some pretty “in-your-face” anthemic yet thought-provoking music!
Singer Rob Middleton runs the gamut between ear-shattering primal growls synonymous with a singer like Phil Anselmo and the melodic tenor stylings of a Ronnie James Dio, all with the bravado of a consummate front man. Guitarist John Barone employs an arpeggiated approach reminiscent of Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), but compliments with crushing rhythms that would be at home in any Anthrax song, and the kind of impressive precision riffing one might expect on a Mercyful Fate record. Bassist/keyboardist Steve Ratchen brings his heavy progressive and neo-classical playing and songwriting influences to the group, along with his signature 7 and 14 string instrumentation, which is rather like adding Geddy Lee or John Myung to Helloween! Drummer Brian Brennan is a veritable force of nature, whether he’s employing Slayer-esque double-bass machine-gun delivery, stop-on-a-dime paradiddles or laying down a funk-metal groove, Brian’s the engine providing D1.1 its battery power!
If “take no prisoners” metal that doesn't compromise on technical proficiency or lyrical integrity makes you want to head bang, check out D1.1’s new eponymous EP, available now through this website! Also, be sure to check the live calendar as these guys absolutely kill on stage! The fuse has been lit and we want you there when D1.1 explodes!
